Annai Velankani Impex is located over at 18 B C Press Raod in Royapuram. Being near the port area means we are always surrounded by the sound of trucks and the salty air. We handle a lot of import and export stuff, which basically means a lot of paperwork and waiting for containers to move. Our office isn't very big, and it's usually crowded with samples and boxes. We don't really have a reception area; you just walk in and someone will be there at a desk. The building is older, like most things in this part of Royapuram, and the street outside is usually a bit chaotic with traffic. We’ve been doing this for a while now, so we know the local customs officers and the truck drivers by name. It’s not a glamorous job, mostly just tracking shipments and making sure the labels are correct. Some days are slow and we just sit around drinking tea, and other days everything happens at once and we're working late into the night. We don't try to sound like a huge corporation because we aren't. We’re just a small group of people making sure goods get from one place to another. If you need something shipped or brought in, we've probably seen it before. It’s just how we make a living down here by the docks, and we take things as they come. It’s busy but it’s a living for us.
