Akoya Shell Trading Co

We are located on the second floor at 4th Cross in Kalbadevi. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, especially when we have bags to carry, but it keeps us fit I suppose. The space is filled with shells of all different kinds, so it has a bit of a seaside smell to it even though we are right in the middle of a very dry and dusty part of the city. We spend a lot of time sorting through the stock, separating the different sizes and types into bins and bags. The lighting isn't great up here, so we have to sit near the windows to really see the colors and patterns on the shells properly. Kalbadevi is a very hectic area to work in, with handcarts and people everywhere, so getting things delivered to us is always a bit of a challenge. We just try to keep things organized as best as we can in the limited space we have. Most of our day is spent packing up small orders and making sure nothing gets crushed or broken. It’s delicate work sometimes, and your fingers get a bit dusty from handling the raw material. We don't have a lot of visitors, mostly just people we’ve been doing business with for years. It’s a quiet enough routine once you get inside and shut the door to the hallway. We just keep at it, day after day, surrounded by these little pieces of the ocean.
