We are tucked away in Kalbadevi at Atmaram Mansion. The address is a bit of a mouthful with Srinivasnagar Nagar Bhavi and all that, but once you’re in Kalbad, it’s easier to find. We are in I B 11. Kalbadevi is one of those places that never really stops moving. It’s crowded and the streets are narrow, but it has a lot of character that you don’t find in the newer parts of the city. Our office in the mansion is small and a bit cramped because we have a lot of files and equipment stored everywhere. The old wooden floors creak when you walk on them and the ceiling is quite high, which helps a bit with the humidity. There’s always the smell of street food and old paper in the air here. Finding a parking spot nearby is almost impossible, so most of us just take the bus or walk from the station. The building has a lot of history and you can see it in the architecture, even if it looks a bit worn down now. We spend most of our day answering phones and sorting through documents. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s our life and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the market outside. When the monsoon hits, the walls get a bit damp, but we’ve learned where to move the desks to keep things dry. It's just home for us.
