You have to head up to the third floor of Plot No 66 on Kalbadevi Link Road to find our place. Room 46 is usually packed to the ceiling with rolls of different fabrics and piles of cloth. It is a bit of a tight squeeze in here, especially when a new shipment arrives. Kalbadevi is a frantic place with people shouting and carts moving all day, and we are right in the thick of it. We handle all sorts of textiles, from light cottons to much heavier materials. We spend a lot of time checking the feel of the fabric and making sure the dyes look right. It is dusty work and your hands get pretty rough from handling all that material for hours on end. We don't have a fancy display room with mannequins or bright lights. It is just a workspace where we get the orders sorted and ready to go out. The stairs are narrow and it can be a real struggle when we have to move heavy bundles up and down, but we are used to it by now. We know the other traders on the Link Road and we understand how the market fluctuates. People come to us when they need a specific type of cloth for their own small businesses or personal projects. We don't use the internet for much. We just talk to people face to face. It is how things have always worked for us.
