Art Deco Natural Stones

Out here in Laxmi Industrial Estate in Andheri, things are always moving. Art Deco Natural Stones is right in the middle of all that noise and activity. We have heaps of stone slabs around. Some are smooth, some are rough. It’s heavy work. You can’t move this stuff without help. The dust is everywhere, even if you try to sweep it up every hour. Our space in the estate isn't meant for looking pretty. It’s where the cutting and checking happens. We look at the patterns in the marble or the grain in the granite. No two pieces are ever the same. People come in with their tape measures and sketches. We try to show them what's available in the stacks. Sometimes the piece they want is at the very bottom. That takes a while to get to. The forklift is our best friend. Without it, we'd be stuck. The sun hits the yard in the afternoon and makes the stones look different. We get a lot of trucks coming and going. It’s a tight squeeze in the lanes here. You have to be careful where you park or you'll get blocked in. We've been here for a good while now. We know the other guys in the estate. It's a community of people who work with their hands and move heavy things. It’s honest work and we like the variety of the stones we get to see. There is always something new to look at when a fresh shipment arrives.
