You can find Dashmesh Marble Cutting & Polishing Industries right along N. H. 21 on the Chandigarh-Ambala Road. We are pretty easy to spot because we’re near the big Decathlon store. The location is great for trucks coming in and out, but it also means we get a lot of road noise and dust from the highway traffic. Our daily life revolves around the big saws and the polishing machines. It’s loud and wet work because of the water used to keep the stone cool while it’s being cut. The yard is usually covered in a thin layer of white slurry from the marble, and everyone here wears heavy boots to keep their feet dry. We have all kinds of stones piled up, some waiting to be cut into specific sizes and others just sitting there until someone picks them out. It’s not a polished showroom experience. You come here to see the raw work being done. Sometimes we’re working late into the night to finish a big order, and the lights from the shop shine out onto the highway. We’ve been doing this for a long time, so we can tell the quality of a piece of stone just by the sound the blade makes when it hits it. It’s a tough job, but it’s what we know. We don’t try to be anything other than a hardworking shop that gets the stone ready for someone’s floor or counter.
