If you head down to Porayar, you’ll find us on the Main Road. Sharmila Goddess Seaside Mission Matric Higher Secondary School is the full name, though it’s a bit of a mouthful to say all at once. We are close enough to the coast that you can sometimes feel the air change, though we are right there on the busy street. The building is right where everyone passes through. Porayar is a small enough place that most people know where the school is without asking. It’s a matriculation school, so we have a wide range of ages here. The mornings are usually a bit chaotic with everyone arriving at once on the Main Road. We just try to get everyone inside and settled before the heat starts to pick up. The building has seen a lot of seasons. We do our best to keep it looking decent, but it’s a working school, not a museum. There's always a bit of chalk dust or a door that needs fixing. That’s just how it is. We don't have fancy decorations, just the basics for the students to learn. It feels like a real part of the town here. People know us, and we know them. It’s a simple life in Porayar, and the school is just another part of that daily rhythm on the road. It keeps us all very busy.
