A P Social Welfare Residential Schools

Out in Adilabad, in a place called Jam, you’ll find this branch of the A P Social Welfare Residential Schools. It’s a girls’ school and junior college. If you’ve ever been to Adilabad, you know it can get quite cold in the winter and very hot in the summer. We are tucked away in a fairly quiet spot. The school is a collection of buildings that have been around for a while. We have the usual setup of rooms for classes and rooms for sleeping. Being in Jam means we are a bit far from the bigger cities, so we have to be self-sufficient. If something breaks, we usually have to figure out how to fix it ourselves or wait for someone to come from town. The girls are used to the quiet life here. We have a schedule that we stick to pretty strictly because that’s the only way to keep things organized with so many people living together. We focus on the lessons, but there’s also time for chores and just sitting outside when the weather is nice. The school is just a part of the landscape here. It’s not a place with a lot of bells and whistles. We just provide the space and the books. It’s an honest way to live and work, and we just keep at it year after year, teaching the girls from the area.
