Satguru Rice & General Mills

Our mill, Satguru Rice & General Mills, sits on Malerkotla Road in Village Dulladi. It’s a good spot because the road is wide enough for the big trucks. We have a lot of space here, which is lucky because we need it. During the harvest, the piles of paddy get higher than the buildings. We have a crew of local men from Village Dulladi who work with us. They are hard workers who don't complain much. We have a small shed where we keep our tools and some spare parts. It feels like something is always needing a bit of repair. The Malerkotla Road stays busy with people heading toward the city. We just stay here and mind our own business. We don't have a corporate office or a marketing team. If someone needs to talk to the owner, they just walk into the yard and look for the person with the most dust on their shirt. We drink a lot of tea to keep going. The smell of the mill is something you never really lose. It stays in your hair and your clothes. We’ve seen the seasons change here for years. Some years are better than others, depending on the rain. We just take it as it comes. Satguru Rice & General Mills is just a local place, doing what mills do on the edge of the road. We stay busy until it's time to close up.
