Maa Annapurna Rice Mill

We run the Maa Annapurna Rice Mill over on Ludhiana Road in Malerkotla. It’s right near the Harijendrarejot area. This place is usually loud with the sound of machinery and the smell of grain is everywhere. We deal with rice all day long, from when it comes in from the fields to when it gets packed up into bags. It's a dusty job and our clothes are usually covered in husk by the end of the shift. The mill has been standing here for a good while. We see a lot of tractors and trucks coming in and out, especially after the harvest. It’s not a fancy office or anything, just a big shed with machines and stacks of gunny bags reaching the ceiling. We spend a lot of time checking the quality and making sure the machines are running right. If one breaks down, it’s a long day of fixing it while everyone waits. The weather matters a lot to us because dampness isn't good for the rice storage. People from the surrounding villages know us well. They bring their grain here and we get to work. It’s hard labor, but it’s what we know how to do. Sometimes the yard gets completely blocked with piles of bags waiting to be moved out. We just keep at it, day in and day out. Malerkotla is a good place for this kind of work. We aren't trying to be the biggest, just trying to keep the machines hummimg.
