Jai Rice & General Mills

Our mill is out on Nabha Road in the Amergarh area of Malerkotla. It’s a good spot because the road is wide enough for the big vehicles to turn around without too much trouble. We do a mix of things here, mostly rice but some other general milling too, depending on what the season brings in. It’s a busy place when the harvest starts. You’ll see bags of grain stacked up almost to the ceiling. We don't have a lot of fancy technology, just the old reliable machines that have been working for years. Sometimes they break down and we have to spend half a day fixing a belt or a motor, but that’s just part of the job. The staff here has been with us for a long time, so everyone knows exactly what to do without being told. We don’t really do much advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here on the road to Nabha. The gates stay open most of the day, and there's usually a dog or two napping in the shade near the entrance. It's not a quiet place, between the hum of the machinery and the shouting to be heard over it. We just try to get the work done and get the rice out the door. It’s practical work for practical people, and we don’t try to make it seem like anything more than it is. We just focus on the task at hand.
