Hijalban Agro Producer Company Limited operates out of Beldanga in Malda. We are located at 02, C/O-Dipak Roy’s place. Malda is famous for its agriculture, so it felt right to set up shop here. Our office isn't anything special to look at, just a functional space where we handle the logistics for the local producers. It’s often quite hot here, and the ceiling fan doesn't always do much more than move the warm air around. We deal with a lot of different crops depending on what time of year it is. You can usually tell what season it is just by the smell of the air around our building. Dipak Roy is around most days to help us keep things organized. We aren't a big corporate entity with a lot of rules; we just try to be honest and get the work done. A lot of farmers come in from the surrounding villages to talk about their harvests and see how we can help them move their goods. There is usually a bit of a crowd around the front door in the mornings. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room, so people just pull up a plastic chair and wait their turn. It’s a bit chaotic sometimes, especially when the phone starts ringing while we are trying to load a truck, but we wouldn't have it any other way. It’s real work with real people who care about the land.
