If you have been to Madurai, you know that West Masi Street is one of the busiest and most famous streets in the city. It’s always full of people, cars, and rickshaws. The Meenakshi Temple isn’t too far away, so the whole area has a lot of energy. Our place is a simple storefront on this busy road. We have a desk and some old maps and posters on the wall. There are always people dropping in to ask about bus timings or car rentals. It gets very noisy outside with all the horns and the general buzz of the market. We have a small bench for people to wait on. The floor is old stone and the ceiling fan hums all day long. It’s a very traditional Madurai setting. Sometimes it’s so crowded outside that it’s hard to even walk on the pavement. We’ve been on West Masi Street for a long time, so we know most of the other shopkeepers around here. It’s a good spot because everyone passes through here at some point. The air is always thick with the smell of jasmine from the nearby flower sellers and exhaust from the traffic. It’s not a quiet or polished office, but it’s right in the thick of things.
