We’ve been here at 14 East Avani Moola Street for a while now. It is a busy part of Madurai, right in the Keelavasal area. People walk by all day, and some stop in because their watch stopped ticking or their phone screen is cracked. It is just me and the tools mostly. The street outside is loud, but inside the shop, it is mostly just the sound of small screwdrivers and maybe a fan running in the corner. I spend a lot of time looking through those magnifying glasses. Sometimes the parts are so small they almost get lost on the table. It is not a big fancy place, just a regular shop where we get things working again. People from around the neighborhood know us. We see the same faces every week. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we keep the door open a bit. There is always someone coming in asking how long a repair will take. We just tell them the truth based on what is broken. It is a simple way to spend the day. Nothing too complicated about it. We just handle the watches and mobiles that come across the counter. Madurai is a fast place, but fixing a watch takes some patience. That is just how it is here on Avani Moola Street. We keep the workbench tidy, or at least we try to most of the time.
