You will find us over at 9 2 4 Maruthupandiar Street in the Viswanathapuram area of Madurai. This is a Govt Of India office. We handle a lot of the central government’s local business right from this building. It’s a very busy street. There is plenty of noise and people moving about all day. The building itself is pretty plain. It doesn’t have any big signs or flashy lights. Inside, it’s just a bunch of desks and old chairs. There are piles of paper that need sorting. We don't have any fancy mission statements. No one talks about corporate rules. We just come in and sign the register. Then we start working on whatever files are waiting for us. The heat in Madurai is famous. Our office is no exception. We keep the windows open but it doesn’t help much with the humidity. We are a small team of local people. We speak a mix of Tamil and English while we work. The local shops are familiar to us. We know where to get a quick snack during our breaks. There’s nothing very special about what we do. It’s just administrative stuff that keeps the wheels turning. We deal with people who come in with their problems. We try to find the right paperwork to help them out. It’s a practical, everyday sort of place. We just try to be useful and get our work done. The work is steady and that is good enough for us.
