I work out of room 405 in the Urban Estate Phase I, over in the Dugri area of Ludhiana. The building is known locally as being part of the Kamaljit Kaur property. It is a busy part of Ludhiana. Every morning I navigate through the traffic to get to the estate. My work involves financial services and exchange, so I spend a lot of time looking at numbers on a screen. The office is pretty functional. I have a sturdy chair and a desk that has seen better days. Ludhiana is a city that never really stops, and Dugri is no exception. There is always the sound of motorcycles and people talking outside. I keep the windows shut to keep the dust out, but you can still hear the city. People come in to send money or sort out their documents. It is a lot of responsibility, but I just take it one person at a time. I don’t have any fancy signs or big posters. It’s just a place where you can get your business sorted without any trouble. Sometimes I grab a samosa from the vendor down the street when I’ve had a busy morning. The office feels lived-in, with stacks of paper and a few personal items like my water bottle and a small plant that I try to keep alive. It is a regular job in a regular part of town.
