Raju Cement & Paint Hardware Store is right there on Ropar Road in Machhiwara. We are very close to the bus stand, so there is always someone passing by or a lot of noise from the buses coming and going. It’s a good spot because people can just hop off and grab what they need for their homes. We stock a lot of cement bags and different cans of paint, along with the usual hardware bits and pieces. The shop is usually a bit dusty because of the cement, but that is expected in this line of work. We’ve been here for a good amount of time, seeing the town change a bit around us. People from the nearby villages come in looking for specific tools or the right shade of paint for their walls. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us making sure everything is on the shelves and helping customers find the right size of bolt or a sturdy bucket. It’s a straightforward way to make a living. Sometimes it gets really busy when people are doing up their houses before the festive season. Other times, we just sit and watch the traffic go by on Ropar Road. We try to keep things organized, but in a hardware store, things have a way of getting messy. We just do our best to help everyone who walks through the door near the bus stand every day.
