Down in Industrial Area 168 A, things are pretty industrial as you would expect. We handle batteries of all sizes here, mostly the heavy ones for trucks or backup systems. The air usually has that sharp tang of lead and acid that you get in this line of work. It is a big space but it’s mostly filled with stacks of black battery casings and heavy cables. We spend a lot of time moving things around with a small trolley because the units are too heavy to lift by hand. The floor is concrete and has a few stains from over the years that won't come out. We have a small corner where we do the charging and testing of the units. It’s quite loud when the chargers are all running at once. Most of our customers are from the surrounding factories or transport companies. They come in looking for something that will last through the winter or the heat of summer. We don't have a receptionist; you just walk in and find one of us in the back working. Usually, someone is wearing heavy rubber gloves and an apron. It’s a lot of physical labor and the days can feel long especially in the heat. We keep a radio playing in the background to pass the time but you can barely hear it over the hum of the equipment. We just provide what people need and make sure things are ready to be used.
