Being at Shop Number 19 in Field Ganj means there is never a quiet moment. We are located right on the road that leads to the Gurudwara Dukh Niwaran, so the street is always full of people and rickshaws. Inside our store, it is just shelves and shelves of different parts. We try to keep track of everything, but sometimes it takes a long time to find one specific bolt or a small fan belt. People come in from all over looking for things to fix their own mills or machines. It is a lot of talking and looking through old dusty boxes. The air in here smells like metal and old oil. We have been in this exact spot for many years now. It is definitely not a polished showroom. It is just a regular shop where people can get what they need to keep their businesses running. We drink a lot of tea throughout the day while we work. If you are looking for something specific, you might have to wait while we dig through the back. The lighting isn't very good towards the rear of the shop, but we know where most things are kept. It is a practical place for practical people. We don’t spend any money on decorations or fancy signs. The walls are just covered in tools and gaskets and belts. It is busy work and the regulars are mostly friends now. We just take each day as it comes here on Niwaran Road.
