Idp Education Australia is based in B/37 House No.2699 in Guru Nanak Colony, which is right off the busy Gill Road. If you know this part of Ludhiana, you know Gill Road is always crowded with trucks, bikes, and people rushing around. It’s pretty noisy outside most of the time, but we’ve mostly gotten used to the sound of horns. Inside our office, we have rows of simple desks where we spend the day helping students go through their papers. Everyone seems to want to go to Australia or somewhere far away to study these days. We spend the whole day looking at visa forms and checking IELTS scores on the computer. The walls have some posters of Sydney or Melbourne, but they are mostly covered with lists and notes. We probably drink way too much tea during the shift. Sometimes the office gets really packed with parents and their kids, and everyone looks a bit nervous about their future plans. We just try to explain the steps as simply as we can. The chairs aren't the most comfortable in the world, but they do the job for now. We have a small staff and we’ve all been here long enough to know the whole routine. We deal with a lot of photocopies and rubber stamps every single day. By the time we finish, our eyes are usually tired from staring at the screens. We close the door and head out into the Gill Road traffic, which is usually a total nightmare around five or six in the evening.
