Thakur General Store

The shop is located right at Tedhi Pulia in Lucknow, very close to the main Chauraha. We are inside Shukla Market, which stays quite hectic most of the time. If you know this part of Lucknow, you know how the traffic can be during the day. Thakur General Store has been here for years, and we’ve seen the whole market change quite a bit around us. We sell general items, mostly stuff for the kitchen and the house. It’s not a fancy supermarket or anything, just a place where you can get your monthly groceries or just a single pouch of shampoo if you forgot it. I usually spend most of my day behind the counter. My nephew helps me out during the busy hours in the afternoon when students come by. Sometimes we have tea from the stall next door while waiting for the next customer. The shelves are a bit crowded because we try to keep everything people might ask for in stock. Sometimes we run out of bread early in the morning because the supply truck is late. People come in, complain about the heat, buy their stuff, and leave. We have a lot of regular faces from the nearby colonies that we see every single day. It feels good when someone stops to chat for a minute instead of just buying and running off. The floors get a bit dusty with all the people coming in from the main road, so we are always cleaning. We just keep going, day after day.
