Sunil General Store

Sunil General Store is tucked away in the Mahbulla Pur area, right near the railway station on Sitapur Road. Being so close to the station means we see a lot of people passing through. We get the locals who live in Madiyawan and also travelers looking for a quick bottle of water or some biscuits before their train comes. I started this shop because it’s a good spot in Lucknow for a small business. We sell the usual things—shampoo sachets, bread, eggs, and plastic items for the house. The shop is quite narrow, so I have to be careful when moving around the crates. It gets very busy when a train is about to depart or has just arrived. Sometimes the noise from the engines is so loud we can’t hear what the customers are saying. It’s a lot of long hours, standing on my feet from seven in the morning until late at night. My brother comes in to give me a break for lunch. We don't have a big staff, just us family members. The walls could use a new coat of paint, and the ceiling fan makes a bit of a rattling noise, but it works fine for us. We like being part of the life around the station. You meet all kinds of people here every single day. Some are in a hurry and others just want to sit and talk while they wait for their platform number to be called out.
