Shapoorji General Store

Lucknow can be a very slow and hot place depending on the season. Out here on Main Road in Jageshwar Puri, Shapoorji General Store has its own rhythm. We are in the 226022 zip code, which is a bit away from the main city centers but still busy enough. Our shop is where we spend almost all our time. It’s got that old-fashioned feel with high ceilings and rows of shelves that go all the way up. We have a ladder we use to reach the stuff on top. It’s mostly just general items, things you need for the house or the kitchen. We don't go in for big advertisements or anything. People just know we are here. The afternoon sun hits the front of the shop pretty hard, so we usually keep the awning down to stay in the shade. It’s a good place to sit and watch the traffic go by on Main Road when things are quiet. We have some regular customers who stop by just to say hello and ask how things are going. We don’t have a computer system or anything, just a paper diary and a pen to keep track of things. It’s worked for us for a long time, so we don’t see a reason to change it now. It is just a simple way of life in a busy neighborhood.
