We are located at 44 B Murli Nagar in Lucknow. Being here in Lucknow-266001, we are right in the heart of where Chikan work is done. Sewa Chikan Industries Private Limited is our name. We’ve been involved in this for a long time. Our space in Murli Nagar isn't very big, but it’s always full of activity. We work with a lot of local artisans who do the embroidery by hand. It’s a slow process and you can't really rush it. We spend most of our time checking the quality of the stitching. Sometimes the patterns are slightly off, or the fabric has a small pull, so we have to be very careful. It’s a lot of sitting and looking at fine details. The air in the workshop always smells like fresh cotton and thread. We don't really do much in the way of big advertisements or fancy brochures. People who want real Chikan work usually find their way to us. It’s a bit of a messy business, with thread and needles everywhere, but we don't mind. We have tea together in the afternoons and talk about the new designs coming in. It feels more like a community than a factory. We are just trying to keep the old ways going while running a decent business. It’s not always easy to manage everything, but we do our best every day in the shop.
