Saraswati Steel (P) Ltd.

Down here in Mahanagar, at B-952-A in Sector-A, things move at their own pace. Saraswati Steel (P) Ltd. is where we spend our mornings and late afternoons. Most of the time, the floor is covered in bits of metal and the smell of grease is just part of the air we breathe. We deal with a lot of heavy stuff, so there’s always someone moving a trolley or checking the stacks of steel in the back. The neighborhood is okay, but parking can be a real headache if you come after nine. We’ve got a couple of desks shoved into the corner for the accounts and the rest of the space is for the inventory. It gets dusty, especially when the wind picks up, so we spend a lot of time dusting off the ledger books and the computer screens. We don’t have a big sign or anything, just the address on the door. People usually find us because they’ve been coming here for years. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting and measuring, and by the end of the day, everyone is usually ready to head home. We drink a lot of tea to stay awake during the slow hours in the afternoon. It’s just a regular business making sure the steel gets to where it needs to go without too much fuss. No big speeches, just the daily grind in Sector-A.
