Paramount Chikan

Paramount Chikan is located right in the heart of the old city at Kaptaan Kuwan, near the Shahi Shifa Khana in Chowk Bazar. This area is very old and the streets are quite narrow. You have to be careful walking through because of all the rickshaws and people. Our shop is a traditional space. We don't have air conditioning or glass walls. We just have our fabrics and the needles. The work we do is slow. You can't rush it. We sit and work on the embroidery for hours at a time. Chowk Bazar is a loud place, full of shouting and bells, but we are used to it by now. It is where our families have lived and worked for generations. We don't have a website or a marketing person. People find us because they know the quality of the stitching we do at Kaptaan Kuwan. We use a lot of white thread and fine cloth. Sometimes the dust from the street gets in, so we have to be careful to keep the items covered. It is a simple way to earn a living. We open up the shop in the morning, sweep the floor, and start on the orders. There is always a lot to do. We don't use fancy words to describe ourselves. We are just craftspeople doing what we were taught in the middle of a very busy market.
