Maheshwari Chikankari

We are Maheshwari Chikankari and we work out of Deg Wali Gali in Raja Bazar. It’s one of those narrow lanes where things can get a bit crowded, but it’s got a lot of character. We focus on traditional work and have been doing this for a long time. The shop is filled with different fabrics and thread work. It’s not a very modern place, we still use old wooden tables and stools. We spend hours looking at the details on the cloth. Sometimes the light in the lane isn't great, so we move closer to the door to see better. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so you’ll usually see one of us sitting here all day. We don't really do much marketing or anything like that. Most of our customers are people who have been coming to Raja Bazar for years. They know where to find us in the gali. It gets hot in the summer, but we have a small fan that keeps things moving. We take our time with things and don't like to rush. It’s a quiet sort of business most of the time. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing. If you walk down the lane, you’ll see our signs among the others. We just enjoy the craft and keeping the tradition alive. We have been here for generations and hope to stay for many more.
