Gupta General Store

Our store is in the Pathak Building on Preeti Nagar Road. It is quite close to the LG Store, which helps people find us. We handle a lot of daily items that families in Lucknow need. The morning starts with people coming in for bread and milk before they head to work. We have rows of plastic containers filled with different types of dals and rice. It gets a bit crowded in the evenings when everyone is coming home. We don't have a big staff, just us family members taking turns behind the counter. The shelves are packed with soaps, shampoos, and spices. We try to keep the prices sensible since we know everyone in the neighborhood. It’s not like those big malls. Here, we actually talk to the customers. Sometimes the floor is a bit cluttered with new stock that just arrived. We have to move boxes around to make a path. It’s hard work, especially when the power goes out and it gets stuffy inside. But we keep the doors open. We know which neighbor prefers which brand of cooking oil. That’s the benefit of being a local store for so long. We just provide what’s needed for the kitchen and the home, nothing more than that. It’s a lot of hours, but this is what we do to keep the house running.
