Gautam Genral Store

Gautam Genral Store is found on Abdul Aziz Road in the Chaupatiyan area of Lucknow. We are near the Sandohan Mandir, which is a big local point for everyone here. The pincode is 226003. I spend my days here among the stacks of goods and the smell of various spices that fill the air. Being near the mandir means we see a lot of people passing by, especially on special days when the crowds are thick. We carry a lot of general items that people need for their homes on a daily basis. I try to keep the stock fresh and the prices fair, without any of that big-city marketing talk that you hear elsewhere. It is just a shop. The walls are lined with racks holding everything from pens to packets of snacks and lentils. Sometimes the street outside is so loud with traffic and people that we have to shout to be heard over the noise, but that is just Lucknow for you. Chaupatiyan is a place with a lot of soul, and we feel lucky to be a small part of it. I usually close up when the sun goes down and the street lights come on in the evening. It is a lot of standing and a lot of counting, but it is my work. We do not have any fancy missions or slogans that we use. We just open the doors, sell our goods, and go home to do it all again the next morning when the sun rises.
