Famous Printing Co. is down in the basement of Karamat Market. We are in shops 23, 25, and 27. Being in a basement means it stays a bit cooler than the street, but it also means we don’t get much natural light. We are in the Nishatganj area, right near the police station. You can usually hear the sound of the printers echoing in the hallway before you even see us. The air is thick with the smell of paper and fresh ink. We have a lot of machines squeezed into the space, so you have to be careful where you walk so you don't trip over a power cord or a stack of boxes. Our desks are usually buried under stacks of proofs and order forms that need sorting. We’ve been in Nishatganj for a long time, and we know the other shopkeepers in Karamat Market pretty well. Sometimes we have to run up to the street level just to get a bit of fresh air or grab a quick tea from the stall nearby. Printing is a lot of waiting for machines to finish and then rushing to pack everything up for the customers. We get a lot of people coming in last minute with urgent jobs, and we do what we can to help them out. It’s not a perfect system, but it works for us. We just keep the rollers moving and the ink trays full. It’s a messy, honest way to work and the noise becomes like a background hum.
