D Kohli & Co.

Our office for D Kohli & Co. is at 154, G.b. Marg on Latouche Road. If you know this part of the city, you know it’s famous for all the hardware and electrical shops. The street is always packed with carts and people moving supplies around. It’s a dusty place, and I find myself cleaning my desk at least twice a day just to keep the grime off. The shop itself is narrow but goes back quite a way. We have shelves reaching almost to the ceiling, filled with all sorts of things we’ve collected over the years. I usually sit near the front so I can see who’s coming in. The noise from Latouche Road is constant—lots of shouting and bells ringing from the rickshaws. It’s the kind of place where you have to speak up if you want to be heard. We don’t have air conditioning, just a couple of wall fans that move the warm air around in the summer. It’s not the most comfortable spot in the world, but it’s where we’ve done our business for a long time. Most of our day is spent looking up parts or writing out invoices by hand in those big ledger books. We don't use much fancy technology here; the old ways still seem to work just fine for us and our customers who come by. It is just a simple, hardworking environment for everyone.
