Chhangamal Chikan Industries

Our workshop, Chhangamal Chikan Industries, is located at Maruti Niwas on Khun Khun Ji Road in the Chowk area. It’s a place filled with the sound of people working and the constant hum of the street outside. We focus on chikan work here, so there is always thread and fabric everywhere you look. It’s not a very tidy place, but we know where everything is. The building, Maruti Niwas, is an older structure with some character, though it could use some repairs here and there. We spend most of our hours sitting and checking the embroidery or packing up bundles to be sent out. The lighting is bright because we need to see the fine details, but the rest of the room is usually a bit dim. We’ve been on Khun Khun Ji Road for quite a while now. It’s a busy spot and there’s always someone walking in to ask questions or check on an order. We don't have a big team or fancy equipment. Most of what we do is by hand or with simple tools. It takes a lot of patience to get through the piles of work we have. We usually have the radio playing in the background to keep things lively. It’s a steady job and we’ve gotten used to the pace of the Chowk. We just focus on getting the work done and keeping up with the day.
