Amit General Store

Amit General Store is located in the Vinayakpuram area of Lucknow, right inside Vinit Ghad. It is a typical neighborhood shop where we sell everything from soaps to pulses. I started this place because there weren't many shops right on this corner. The shelves are mostly full of things people need every day, like washing powder, tea leaves, and sugar. I try to keep the stock fresh, but sometimes a bag of chips sits there for a week or two. The room isn't very big, so things are stacked pretty high. You might have to wait a minute if I'm in the back looking for a specific brand of spice. Lucknow gets quite dusty, so I spend a good amount of time wiping down the bottles and jars. It’s mostly just me here, though my brother helps out when I have to go to the wholesale market to pick up more supplies. Customers usually just shout out what they want from the door, and I bag it up for them. We have a small ledger for the regulars who pay at the end of the month. It’s nothing fancy, just a plain shop with white walls and a few tube lights. I keep a stool behind the counter for when the street gets quiet. It’s a decent way to spend the day, talking to neighbors and seeing what is happening in the street. Some people just stop by to chat for a while.
