Amit General Store

Amit General Store is located in Sector Q, Aliganj. We are quite close to Mangal Pandey Park, which is a nice landmark for people to find us. A lot of people go for their walks in the park and then stop here for a cold drink or some snacks on their way back home. Lucknow summers are tough, so the cold water sells very fast. Our shop is just a regular corner store. We have shelves full of shampoos, soaps, and all the kitchen staples like lentils and flour. It’s mostly me and sometimes my nephew helping out. We don’t have any fancy lighting or big glass windows. It is just a standard shop with a counter and a lot of stock piled up. I try to keep a bit of everything so people don't have to go all the way to the main market. Sector Q is a nice place to work. The neighbors are friendly and we all know each other. Sometimes people just come in to escape the sun for a minute. I spend my day filling small bags with sugar or pulses from the larger sacks. It can be a bit repetitive, but I don't mind it. We have a small TV in the back to watch the news when there are no customers. It’s a quiet existence, really. We have been here for a long time and the shop has become a bit of a fixture near the park. It’s just how things are for us.
