Ajay Shanti Degree College

I am writing this from Lakhimpur-Kheri where Ajay Shanti Degree College is located. We have been running things here for a while now on the edge of town. It is a pretty plain building with nothing fancy to look at but it gets the job done for the local kids who need a degree. Most of our students come from the nearby villages and you will see them arriving on their cycles or the bus every morning. The classrooms have high ceilings and old fans that click a bit when they are turned up to high speed. It gets really hot in the summer months but we manage to get through the day. People around here know us because we have been part of the landscape for so many years. There is not much noise around the campus since we are not right in the middle of the main market area. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just have to open the windows wider to let the air in. We teach the usual subjects like arts and science which helps people get local jobs or go for further studies later on. My desk is usually covered in papers and old registers that always need filing. It is a busy place during admission time when parents come in asking about fees and dates. We just try to help them out without making things too complicated. It is just a normal college where people come to learn.
