Shree Shyamji Krishna Verma Vidhyalaya

Being out here in Lakhpat, Kutch, things move at a bit of a different pace. Shree Shyamji Krishna Verma Vidhyalaya is where we work every day, serving the families in this corner of the 370630 region. The landscape around the school is quite open, and the wind can get pretty strong sometimes. Our building is a simple structure made to handle the local weather. We have classrooms for the different grades, and a small office where we keep all the files and records. The students come from all around the area, some traveling a fair distance to get here. We focus on the basics of teaching and making sure the kids have a place to learn. The teachers here are used to the quiet life in Lakhpat. We don't have much in the way of high-tech gadgets, but we have plenty of books and chalk. During the breaks, the kids run around outside, and you can see the dust rising from the ground. It is an honest kind of place. We spend our time preparing for classes and grading papers. When the sun gets high, we keep the windows open to catch any breeze we can. It’s a lot of responsibility keeping a school running in this part of Kutch, but we just take it one day at a time. We know our students and we know their parents, which makes the work feel a bit more personal than it might elsewhere. We are just here doing our job.
