Vardhman Rice Mill

Vardhman Rice Mill sits right on Papran Road. It is a noisy place to spend a day, but that is how you know work is getting done. We have been operating here for quite some time now. The yard out front is usually full of yellow bags and loose grain that spilled during unloading. We try to keep it tidy, but it is a losing battle most days. Inside the mill, the air is thick with that specific smell of raw rice and old machinery oil. It is not a bad smell, just one that stays in your clothes long after you leave. We do not have any fancy computers or high-tech systems. We use old ledgers and a lot of memory to keep track of what is coming in and what is going out. The workers here are mostly local guys who live nearby. We take our lunch breaks together sitting on the low wall outside when the weather is nice. Sometimes the trucks arrive late and we have to stay well past dark to get everything unloaded. Nobody complains much. It is just what the job requires. We focus on the grain and the machines. Everything else is secondary. The road outside stays busy with people heading into town, but we mostly stay within our own gates, focused on the piles of grain that need processing before the week is over.
