R.S. Cement

Working up here in Tandi, in the Lahaul and Spiti district, is definitely different from being in a city. We are located right in the village, and the scenery is incredible, though we’re usually too busy to look at the mountains much. Getting cement up to this part of the country is a real challenge because of the winding roads and the weather. During the winter, things slow down quite a bit because the snow makes it hard for any trucks to move in or out of the post. We serve the local village and the surrounding areas, helping people get the materials they need for their homes and small projects. It’s a small operation, mostly run by just a couple of us who live right here in Tandi. The air is thin and crisp, and we spend a lot of time outside near the storage area. We don't have a formal office; it’s more of a desk in the corner of the warehouse where we keep the receipts and the phone. People around here don't expect anything fancy, they just want to know if we have stock available. We drink a lot of tea to stay warm and chat with the neighbors who stop by. It’s a tough environment sometimes, especially when the cold sets in, but it’s home for us and we like being useful to the community. It keeps us quite occupied throughout the year.
