Cafe Chalte Chalte

We are up here in Village Kothi, right inside the Hotel Chalte Chalte building. It gets pretty cold in this part of Manali, especially when the wind comes down from the passes toward the Post Office at Palchan. Most people find us because they are heading towards the higher mountains or coming back from a long drive and need to stretch their legs. The place isn't very fancy, just some tables and chairs where you can sit down and get out of the weather for a bit. My staff and I spend a lot of time just keeping the place warm and making sure there is hot water ready for whoever walks through the door. Sometimes the mountain roads get blocked and things slow down quite a bit around here, so we just sit and wait for the snow to clear. We stay open as long as the lights are on and someone is around to work the small kitchen. It’s quiet mostly, except when a group of travelers comes in all at once and starts talking over each other about their trip. The view outside is decent, but we are usually too busy cleaning up the mud people track in on their boots to look at it much. We have been here for a while now, just doing the same things every day. It’s a simple setup for anyone who needs a break from the road.
