Krishna Rice Mill

We spend most of our time here at 23, Thirumagal Complex on the Salem Main Road. It is a busy spot in Uthangarai and there is always noise from the traffic outside. Krishna Rice Mill has been running from this corner for a while now. Most days start early before the sun gets too hot. We have the heavy machines for the rice and they need a lot of looking after. You can usually find us checking the bags or making sure the huller is working right. It gets quite dusty inside because that is just how it is with grain. The complex has other shops but people know where we are because of the smell of raw rice and the sound of the motors. We don't really have a big office or anything fancy. Just a desk and some chairs where we sit when the work slows down for a minute. The Salem Main Road is always crowded with buses and lorries passing by. Sometimes it is hard to hear yourself talk when a big truck goes past our front door. We just focus on the paddy coming in and the finished rice going out to the local markets. It’s a lot of physical work and my hands are usually rough by the end of the week. We try to keep things organized at number 23 but with so many sacks moving around, it’s a constant battle against the mess. It's just a normal workplace.
