Being in Vijayawada on Purnachararao Street is always busy. Penamaluru Mandal Farmers Producer Company Limited is on the first floor, right across from the Muni building. It’s a bit of a cramped space with lots of files and people coming in and out from the mandal every day. You can hear all the traffic and the horns from the street outside while we are trying to work. It’s not like being out in the open fields of Krishna district, but this is where the business side of things happens. We handle stuff for a lot of different farmers around here. Sometimes the stairs are a bit narrow when we are carrying supplies up. We aren't trying to be fancy or polished. The office has some old chairs and a lot of paper registers piled up. We spend a lot of time on the phone or talking to folks who drop by to see how things are going. It’s a lot of coordination, making sure the produce goes where it’s supposed to go. People think farming is just being in the dirt, but there’s a lot of this office work too. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons, even with the windows open to the street. We just sit there, drink some tea, and get the records straight for everyone. It’s a local operation, run by people who know the area and the families here. We just do the work.
