Thekkayil Building Materials

Our shop, Thekkayil Building Materials, is located right by the Kakkodi Post Office in Calicut. It’s a familiar spot for most of the locals who live nearby. We’ve been here for a good amount of time, providing the basic things people need for construction and repairs. The area around the post office is usually busy, so there’s always something to see out the front window. We have a lot of heavy items, so the place is mostly filled with stacks of bags and various supplies. It isn't a place where you’ll find fancy displays or bright lights. It’s more of a working warehouse where things are moving in and out all day long. We spend a lot of our time checking the inventory and making sure we have enough stock for the next few days. Sometimes the rain in Calicut makes things a bit difficult, but we just cover everything up with tarps and keep going. We are a small crew here. We don't have any big corporate rules or anything like that. We just talk to the people who come in and help them find what they are looking for. It’s a very simple operation. We open up early and stay until the work is finally done. You’ll usually find one of us near the front or way back in the storage area. We don't put much stock in being polished; we just want to make sure the materials are ready when someone needs them. That’s how we’ve always done it.
