SELVA BRICK HOUSE LLP

We have been at 220 (11/97) HarithaChennamangallur P o for a while now. The brick yard gets pretty dusty when the wind picks up in the afternoon. Most days start around six when the first trucks roll in. It is just a few of us here making sure the loads are ready to go out. We spend a lot of time walking around the stacks. Sometimes the rain slows everything down and we have to cover the piles with big plastic sheets. That is always a bit of a mess. My boots are always covered in red clay by the end of the shift. We sit near the gate and have tea while waiting for the next driver to show up. It is not quiet work but it keeps us busy. People from around the village come by to ask about prices or just to see what we have in stock today. We do not do much fancy talking here. We just load the bricks and make sure the count is right before the truck leaves the gate. The sun gets hot over the yard in the middle of the day. You learn to find the shade wherever you can. We have a small desk inside but I prefer being out where the action is. It is just how we do things here every day of the week.
