About Sayou Bricks & Clay Works – Building & Construction Material in Kozhikode
It's mostly just mud and fire here at the yard on Kanniparamba Road. Making bricks isn't easy work, and we’ve been at it in Mankkavu for a good long time. My hands are usually covered in clay by the end of the shift. We spend a lot of time checking the kilns and making sure the stacks are straight. It's a bit out of the way, but people find us when they are building something new. We don't really have a big office or a receptionist. If you show up, you’ll probably find me near the back where the drying happens. The sun can be brutal in this part of town, but that’s actually good for the bricks. We use the local clay and just do things the way we were taught. Sometimes a batch doesn't come out perfect, and we have to start over or sell them off cheap, but that’s just how the brick business goes. My brother helps with the transport when we have enough for a full load. We don't spend money on ads or anything like that. Word of mouth works well enough for us here. People know where 11/220 is. We’ve seen a lot of houses go up in the neighborhood using our stuff, which feels okay, I guess. It’s a messy job, and it’s loud, but it keeps us busy and pays the bills. We just keep working the clay and hoping for good weather. There isn't much more to it than that.
