Down on West Hill, at number 56, things are usually a bit quieter than the rest of the city. We are situated on Athanikkal Ashramam Road, which has a bit of a slope to it. The studio gets a decent amount of light in the mornings, which helps when we are working on the finer details. There are canvases leaned up against almost every wall. Some are finished and some have been sitting there half-done for months because we just haven't got back to them yet. The floor has plenty of paint drips that won't ever come out. We don't really mind it, though. It feels like a workspace should. You can hear the traffic from the main road if you listen closely, but mostly it is just the sound of brushes or pencils. I usually spend the first hour of the day just tidying up the brushes that were left out the night before. The ashram road is a bit narrow, so parking can be a real pain if more than two people show up at once. We’ve got a small kettle in the back for making coffee when the weather gets a bit chilly. It’s not a high-end gallery or anything like that. It’s just a place where we make things and try to keep the dust off the wet paint. Sometimes the neighborhood cats wander in through the back door if we leave it open for a breeze.
