We are based out of Erahikkal in Calicut. It’s a local spot where we’ve set up our small shop. My cousin and I run the place mostly. We deal with electrical items and some light fixtures. The building isn't very large, so we have to be careful about how we stack the boxes in the back. Sometimes it feels like we’re tripping over things, but we manage to find what we need eventually. We don't have a big marketing budget or a website that does much. People around here just know us as the place to go when they need a specific switch or a bulb that the bigger stores don't carry. We spend our mornings checking the inventory and the afternoons helping people who walk in with broken parts. Calicut can get very humid, so the shop door stays open to let the breeze in. We have an old wooden desk where we keep the ledger. We still write most things down by hand because it’s faster for us than using the computer for every little sale. It’s a bit old-fashioned, but it works for our needs. We’ve lived in this area our whole lives, so we know most of the customers by name. It’s a quiet life and the work is consistent. We close up around six most evenings unless someone calls with an emergency. We usually have some tea around four and take a short break before the evening rush.
