Vayalil Spices

Vayalil Spices is set up in Pala, right near the Kottayam Bus Terminal. It’s a very busy spot because of all the buses coming and going all day long. You can hear the conductors shouting and the engines idling from our front door. We handle a lot of different spices here in Pala. The building we’re in is nothing special to look at, just a regular concrete structure that keeps the rain off the goods. Inside, it’s mostly piles of bags and the smell of cardamom and pepper. We spend a lot of time talking to the farmers and the people who bring the spices in. Since we are so close to the bus terminal, there’s always someone new walking by or asking for directions. It gets a bit chaotic during the peak travel times. We have a small desk where we do the accounts, but most of the work happens on the floor with the scales. We aren't interested in being fancy. Vayalil Spices is just about getting the work done and making sure the stuff is okay. The humidity in this part of the country can be a challenge for storage, so we have to be careful. We’ve been in this location for a good while, and we like being in the heart of the town. It’s easy for people to find us, even if they aren't from around here. We just open up in the morning and stay until the last bus crowds have thinned out. It works well for us.
