Spr Oil Mill

We’ve been here at 71 Junction Road for quite a while now. Most people around Erumanur know us because we’re right near Fathima Church. If you walk past our place, you can usually smell the oil being pressed long before you see the sign. It’s a busy spot, especially in the mornings. We don’t have a big fancy office or anything like that. It’s just the mill where the work happens every day. My family started this business, and I’ve been around these machines since I was just a kid. They make a lot of noise, which can be a bit much, but that’s just the way it goes here. Some days are slow and we just sit and wait, but other days we can hardly keep up with the jars. We get people coming in from all over the neighborhood. They often bring their own containers to fill up. We just try to get the oil ready and keep the place clean enough to work in. It’s dusty work, and my clothes are always stained by the end of the shift. The church bells ring nearby and that’s how we keep track of the time mostly. We open up early because the morning air is cooler for working. By midday, it gets really hot inside with all the equipment running. We close up when the sun goes down or when the work is finally done. It’s just an honest day’s labor for us.
