Quality Cardamom

We work out of Manakkuzhiyil House, which is right near the Vazhakulam Post Office. It is more of a home than an office, really. Quality Cardamom is what we call the business, but mostly it is just us handling the spice bags that come through. The whole house smells like cardamom, especially when the weather is damp. We have a large room in the back where we keep the sacks piled up. We spend a lot of time sorting through them on the floor. It is a lot of manual work, checking the color and the size of the pods. We do not have any big machines to do it for us. The post office being so close is good because we are there almost every day sending things out. Vazhakulam is famous for this kind of stuff, so there are always people moving back and forth with trucks and carts. We usually start quite early before it gets too hot. By the afternoon, we are mostly sitting on the veranda watching the cars go by and waiting for the next delivery. The floor is concrete and stays cool, which is nice. We have a small kitchen where we make coffee for anyone who stops by to talk business. It is a simple life here, just dealing with the land and the spices that grow on it. We do not need much more than that to keep things going.
