Shree Khatuwala Traders is based right at 90, New Grain Mandi. If you know the mandi, you know how crazy it gets in the mornings. It’s all about the trucks coming in with sacks of grain and people haggling over prices. Our spot is usually piled high with bags, and there isn't much room to move around once a shipment arrives. We spend a lot of our time checking the quality of the grains by hand, just feeling the texture and looking for any issues. It’s a very hands-on kind of business. We don't have a corporate structure or a big marketing plan. We just talk to the farmers and the buyers who come through the gates every day. The office is just a desk and some chairs where we drink tea and handle the bills. It’s dusty and noisy, and the weather really dictates how our day goes. If it rains, everything slows down. If it’s harvest time, we’re here until late at night. We’ve been at number 90 for a long time, and we’re just a part of the daily life in the grain market. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s what we know. We just try to keep things moving and make sure the sacks are weighed correctly.
